Helbio S.A. in Patras, Greece, has received two orders from METACON AB Karlskoga Sweden, for a 5 kWe High Temperature Fuel Cell CHP system running on Natural Gas and a Fuel Processor system running on Biogas. The Fuel processor is capable to produce hydrogen suitable to feed a 5 kWe High Temperature Fuel Cell. Both systems are designed to operate in remote locations, without the need for external power input.

The CHP system delivers 5 kW electrical energy, using natural gasas the energy source. It consists of a fuel processor which converts natural gas and water into a hydrogen rich stream, suitable to be fed into a HT PEM fuel cell. Reformation of natural gas is carried out in the steam-reforming mode within specially designed reactor/catalyst system. Elimination of CO is achieved by a single stage water gas shift reactor. The effluent contains less than 1.5 vol. % CO. The fuel processor and the fuel cell are highly integrated and controlled via a common scheme, thus operating in a very efficient manner.

The Fuel processor system processes a biogas feedstock and delivers hydrogen suitable for High temperature PEM fuel cells. The system produces enough hydrogen, to feed a 5 kWe HTPEM. Reformation of biogas is carried out in the steam-reforming mode within specially designed reactor/catalyst system. Elimination of CO is achieved by a single stage water gas shift reactor. The effluent contains less than 1.5 vol. % CO. The fuel processor is controlled via advance control software, thus operating in a very efficient manner.
